Alexa Rating Improved

From a rating of 23, 682,818 in August, the Alexa rating has improved to 6,800,273. It is still not OK but I think it is quite an improvement since I did not work on promoting and generating traffic for the blog. Except for some posts, there were really very few updates.

In fact, there is still a bug on the sidebar that needs to be taken care of once I finished the directory I am currently working on. In the meantime, I suggest using an Internet Explorer although I prefer Mozilla Firefox in viewing websites.

RapidShare Changes Download Options for Free Users

If you have been downloading files from the internet then you must be aware of RapidShare. Else, you should know that RapidShare offers file hosting services and is used by many internet users who upload and/or download files. RapidShare offers both free and premium accounts.

I have been using it for few months now, together with other file hosting services. Since I only download files that I need, I only use the free account that allows me to download one file at a time. That is, about 1 or 2 minutes of waiting for the download button to appear and only allows one download after another. Today, I observed that some changes were introduced to the free user account.

Instead of download after another download, free users can initiate a download again after about 15 minutes of waiting time. There might be some other changes but this is the most prominent one. I have read some posts offering free RapidShare premium accounts after performing  a certain task but I have not inquired about the tasks yet. For frequent downloaders, upgrading to a premium account will be the best option. The price may be quite high but it allows parallel downloads. Once you start downloading files, it might become a habit. Otherwise, free account with a waiting time of 15 minutes after each download  will just be fine.

Alexa Rating Is Now Showing

I thought the placement of the code for Alexa rating is wrong. Each day that I checked the stats, there was no change in the rating. I was surprised when I opened today, there is already a figure appearing on the stats box. It is 23, 682,818. I know it is very low but better than not seeing any figure at all.

Months back, I remember being so active promoting my other blog just so my Alexa stats will go up to get more opportunities. Many webmasters disregard the result of Alexa rating so I am still thinking if I am again up to the challenge of increasing my Alexa rating or not.

Take note that the lower the figure, the higher the standing of the site.

If you want to display Alexa rating on your site, visit Alexa.com. Get the code and place the code in the area of your site where you want the stats to appear. Ratings may not appear immediately so just be patient.

Getting to Know RSS

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication

Wiki defines RSS as

RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a “feed,” “web feed,” or “channel”) contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.

I have not given much thought about RSS but I have some projects which I hope that will be easier to implement with the use of RSS aggregator. RSS aggregator is a software or program that collects RSS feeds from several websites and place them into one place so a person does not need to visit the individual websites. I have been reading for a day on how to convert RSS feeds into HTML or any form that will be useful but I have not found the answer to my question yet. I am not getting the results that I want.

The discussions I’ve read so far are for continuous update. I would like the data to be stored in a database. Unfamiliar with the methodology, I think I am still far from achieving what I have in mind. Maybe, RSS is not the answer. Maybe it is. There might be programs out there that can successfully implement my project but I do not have the funds to buy such programs. Besides, I want to know how it was done if it is another programming code. With unsolved problems like this, the more I want to continue studying.
