54 Products Included In BFAD Partial List to be Tested for Melamine Content

The issue of China’s milk products containing Melamine have been a household scare in the Philippines especially for mothers with infants. In relation to the Melamine issue, Philippine Daily Inquirer issue for September 27, 2008 has published the partial list of milk and other milk products collected by Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) for testing.

Included in the list are the following products

According to the article, four children have died and about 55,000 others have fallen ill in China after drinking milk tainted with melamine. Not all the products came from China but were also subjected to laboratory testing because they might have some ingredients that originated from China.

BFAD director Leticia Gutierrez said that ban on specific brands will be lifted as soon as laboratory tests proved the products were not contaminated with melamine.

Aside from milk products, China-made tofu product samples bought from Pasay markets were also brought in for testing.

Mars firm – producers of M&M’s Snickers and Dove that are made in China, has reassured the consumers that their products are safe for consumption. The company submitted documents to BFAD supporting that their products are safe for consumption. Chinese Food Safety Agency had also tested product samples of Mars China’s domestic milk powder suppliers and found them “free of melamine.”
